I was talking to a friend about a week ago and he thought that gas would never get to $4 a gallon. On the way home from work today, I noticed that the price had jumped from about $3.79 a gallon to $3.93 today. I give it just another day or two and we will see regular unleaded gas over $4.

Smoking Ban - Your Rights & Freedoms Print E-mail

I want to thank all those that got out and voted for the right to choose in the smoking ban. The freedom of the businesses to choose how they operate their businesses is still their own. This was a close vote once again and I'm sure that those that put this on the ballot will again try to put it for a vote in the future, but we as Amarilloan's decided to let the businesses operate as they see fit. I don't smoke but have no right to take away the freedom of those business owners to make that choice. Those that are trying to get this passed need to rethink this issue and maybe come up with a less severe ban, and maybe they will suceed, but a complete ban was way out of the question. There hearts are in the right place, but they need to talk to the businesses and let them know that they will be loosing the non-smoking money, and maybe the businesses will decide on thier own. I still say if you don't want to put up with the smoke, then don't visit these businesses. It's just as simple as that!   ~~~ added 5/12/08 - Jeff - Project Amarillo ~~~

AAYC
The Amarillo Activity Center was founded by LaRue and Matthew Hite in April of 2007. Shortly after that time the board of directors agreed and bought the former downtown YMCA building at 816 S Van Buren and began creating the AAYC. Although the AAYC is in it´s infancy it still houses the AAYC Teen Scene, Amarillo Blades Program, and the AAYC Childcare Facility. As the AAYC grows so will it´s programs and services to the youth of Amarillo.

Traffic Cameras Print E-mail

Since nobody else will talk about it here, then I will say something about it.
What's with all the hype of the bads of the traffic cameras at the red lights? Why is everyone so concerned that it's going to invade your privacy? If you are driving on a public street then you are in public and anyone can see you or take a picture of you anyways. If you are so concerned that your wife is going to see a picute of you and your mistress driving through a red light, then maybe you shoudln't run the light and you won't have to worry.

Hey Jeffo,

I have been coming to your site for a long time and I applaud you and what you have tried to do.

I moved from Amarillo about 16 months ago because there is nothing worth staying for in Amarillo. Now I've got a job making about twice what I could ever make in Amarillo, and there is such a nightlife in Austin. I will never come back to that red-neck hole in the ground again.

Downtown Amarillo Print E-mail

Ok after reading today's newspaper about the TIRZ thing and about Potter county want's to only pay their fair share, I have to ask this?
Why the hell is everyone so concerned about making downtown Amarillo into downtown big city America.

Why is so much of my hard earn money being used to rebuild a crumbling part of this town? Amarillo is doing fine, and downtown is just what it is. Why not tell big businesses to come in and rebuild it and rename the part they build after their product, like they do in big cities. ie-American Airlines Center and Smirnof Center in Dallas!
