I keep getting emails telling me what I could do to revive the local scene.

They say that I should promote local shows. For one I do promote the local shows through this website. Maybe you think I should spend a few thousand to sponsor the shows, with money I don't have!
They say I should have an awards show like the Ammy awards. I don't know about you guys, but I remember how bad that ended.

They tell me to give free advertising to the local clubs. Ummmm.... Oh....... yeah they already have that here if they want it!
I get asked why I hate the bands and only say things about the local scene sucking and the bands suck, etc..... Well, if you would actually read everything on this site. You might notice that I support the local bands and occasionally I get a little ticked off at the lack of support in Amarillo toward the bands and the scene. Maybe your just reading the comments from Kaos and think I have the same views!

Now it's your turn to submit your views on the local scene and what it would take to make it better! I'm just one guy, and it takes more than just me to make a scene happen. I know there are a lot of folks in Amarillo that have some great ideas about how to make a local scene happen, and if they would just speak their minds, maybe others would listen and make it happen!
There are about 500 - 1000 different viewers each day at Project Amarillo. And I know that some of these guys are band members, and some are bar owners or employees. Maybe if they see what everyone has to say, they might just act on these ideas and make it happen!

If you are ready to give your opinions on the local scene and what you think should happen, then get to posting ! You can add your post here or In the main menu on the left top of the page is a button "Post Something!" Click that and choose the category "What can be done to revive the Scene?" and add your view on the scene!

Thats a pretty damn good idea. you could even get the media involved. Somewhere
like AZTEC music hall with about 8 to 10 bands, food, drinks, beer. Thats
something alot of people would go to, I would, and so would alot of my
co-workers at pantex. GOOD IDEA ANNON.

This is just a shot in the dark, but I know the host of this website has alot of
pull here in amarillo, so why not try to get some of the local bands like
Boss420, severed tyez, Nearfall. etc. and have another big deal here in
Amarillo, kinda like Homers Backyard Ball, only ROCK N ROLL

Why does everyone say the scene is dead. It's alive and well. This is not Austin
or Dallas folks. We are just not big enough to have their scenes. Get a life and
go check out what is there. And Project Amarillo is doing more than almost
anyone else in this town. Why is it his responsibility to find bands and bring
them here. As far as I'm concerned, this guy is doing that in a way. He's
helping everyone out there know about the Amarillo music scene. It gets
attention and I'll bet a few bands out there have noticed!
I don't want this
guy to get into promoting shows. If he does, then he might not have enough time
to keep up with the website. That would piss me off!

at the clubs afterwords! alot was going on last night i dont know about anywhere
else but the golden light was packed for Lonesome Goat. what needs to be done is
people going to shows. quit yer whinin turn off the xbox and go to a show and
support your local musicians. its not a "scene" without fans! -thanks
jeff- r.d.

I agree with Jeff. People keep whining about the music scene in Amarillo but
when there\'s bands playing, NO ONE SHOWS :eek What\'s up Amarillo?????
Get out and support the local musicians and quit your boo hooing.

I agree with both. My band Nearfall played at 5 on the Mardi Gras stage and
there were about 75 people there. That\'s alot better than some of the
clubs around here that I\'ve seen. it\'s almost like everyone will come
see you at a big gig like that, but won\'t come out if you\'re playing
in a small bar. On the other hand, IWe can play for 3 people of 3,000 and be
happy either way just because we\'re doing what we love to do. Thanks a
million to everyone who supports local musicians

someone should open a cool new bar with a big stage for bands to play on.

Hey idiot, they have done this several times and the crowd wouldn't show
up to keep it open. What is your idea of a cool new bar?

avatar One thing that would help would be Rock 108 and the other cumulus stations
would start actually supporting local musicians. One would assume that the
local stations could take one minute here and there to give people a heads up on
what bands might be playing in our area. People might start listening more if
they chanced having a fun time with their friends that weekend from the
announcements on a cumulus station. Another thing that would help is to make a
club that appeals to girls. I don’t give a shit who is playing at the local
bar ; guys will drink in the Garage if they don’t know where the girls are at.
Many women ( and men as well) like nice clean bars with an image of
sophistication because they imagine meeting their friends and new people that
are living the dream. The downtown scene give us Amarillo folk just that ; a
nice clean sophisticated place were we can pretend that we all have money and
can show others just how f*****g cool we are. Downtown would be a great
location if the scene can pay the rent. Imagine a bar where all genres were
welcome. You could have Texas country, Blues, Classic Rock, Rock, and Metal all
under one roof. Bring in some ass shaken Juke Box Cover bands like The Electric
Gypsies. Bring in all the best local and regional Texas Country Bands. Bring in
all of the best local and regional rock all the way to Metal bands. Some nights
have...

The Amarillo music scene is kinda like a lovely snowmobile ride across a frozen
wonderland...suddenly the snowmobile flips pinning you underneath. At
night...the ice weasles come. Or maybe not. In any case, the
\"scene\" ebbs and flows, as I have seen it in my time
\"in\" it. Bands are always better off being musically honest,
in my opinion. To me this simply means playing whatever you want to play however
you want to play it. We focus on impressing ourselves/taking something somewhere
it has not gone before, playing in the moment, if you will. Some people clearly
do not like this and would rather hear some cookie cutter, radio-friendly
candy-ass version of something that they know and are comfortable with. I want
people to love or hate our music...it\'s the indifferent people that really
disturb me and possibly \"hurt\" the \"scene\"
too. We do have a handful of cover tunes that we play, but don\'t expect
them to sound anything like you are comfortable with.

There are quite a few
really good bands/musicians here in Amarillo. But then again, there are some
bands where the greatest thing that I have seen them do onstage is turn oxygen
into carbon dioxide.

How to fix the \"scene?\" Sheesh, I
don\'t think anyone knows. Amarillo is kind of a cultural desert...a dark
road. I think it is up to...

hey get off your asses and go see some local live music this weekend and bring a
friend!

We "the bands" have to make our own scene. We have to get the word out
and make sure everyone hears about us. If we don't do it, then we can't blame
anyone but ourselves. I will make sure our concerts get posted on Project
Amarillo and every other site out there that has a calendar. We will be telling
all of our friends to spread the word when we are going to be on stage. I'm not
going to tell you our name, because we are not sure which name we want to stick
with right now, but I'll give more info when we are ready to rock Amarillo!

Avenue X had the right idea. But the place was to big.maybe a smaller bar would
do better.I saw a band at Skooters that wasnt to bad.maybe they could have open
mike nights and see what bands would actually do something instead of just
complaining.either way see ya their.

Things will get better. Grahams is closed now so the bars in Amarillo will do
better now. The music is always there, maybe it's just not the time to worry
about it. If the bands don't want to play some good music, then the scene you
speak of will stay as lame as it is now. When the bands want to get better and
play some decent stuff then it will get better.
Guest   |09-23-07
Amarillo sucks ass. The good bands go to Lubbock and skip us!
Guest   |10-01-07
the bands just need to get off their asses and make it happen.
I know so many
band members that are always bitching because no one wants to help them and make
them popular. For one, what the hell do you think that Jeff is doing with
Project Amarillo.
You guys need to practice and get your stuff down, then you
gotta work your ass off to get fans and make sure they are at your shows.

Don't just bitch because nobody is doing it for you.
It's your own fault if
nobody comes to your shows.
Shandra   |11-30-07
The scene is out there. You just gotta go find it. Yes, the bars sucks in
Amarillo, but the bands are really good and they are playing all over Amarillo.
You guys need to go experience the scene. Get off your lazy butts at home and go
out. Sitting there in front of your computer bitching isn't going to make it
better!
Go see it for yourself!
Bad Habit   |01-21-08
I have read all the comments about the Amarillo Music Scene and I would like to
say that Amarillo does not welcome bands too play. I play in a classic rock &
roll band that played at Skooters back in 2005 and the owner there was Steve. He
gave us a chance to play and we had a great time and everyone enjoyed the rock &
roll. Since the bar has new ownership they won't even give my band (Bad Habit)
the time of day. I come to Amarillo often and when I attend a bar it is because
they have a band. I believe the people in Amarillo want good rock & roll but are
dictated by the club owners who will not give good bands a chance to play.
