This began as a post on the Forum, but I kept on typing and thought this would be a better post on the site itself!!

It's time for me to rant about the local music scene again, and put out a request for others to get involved in the local scene!!

Those of you that have been with me for a while know that sometimes I go off and get pissed about the local music scene and the attitudes that go with it. Well I'm heading back to some of that again, because some dumbass pushed my buttons tonight.

You may have noticed that I have been doing a few upgrades and small things here at the site lately. I haven't really been concentrating on getting out there and busting my ass for the info again! Well a bunch of you have noticed and decided to let me know! I met up with a few friends the other night and ran into a few that knew that I have this site. I had two guys that were pissed because of the bands and shows I didn't have listed or get in the newsletters or myspace bulletins in the recent past. I wasn't nice anymore and didn't just tell them I'm sorry and appologize about it. And of course they got pissed and thought they could insult me with stupid crap and try to pull my strings and start a fight. I just shrugged and walked off. It's not worth it, it's really stupid and not worth anyone getting hurt. I gave up taking this stuff personally and getting offended because a few want to be cry babies and start some shit!
Then I have had a few that have emailed and let me know that I'm getting behind and missing shows. I was nice and just told them I listed what I heard about, and the info that was sent in or submitted by others on the site. When I'm not out trying to have fun with friends I don't act quite as snobby and such. I get everything that is emailed or submitted on the site on the calendar as soon as possible! That is why I stress getting registered and posting your own shows and events. You don't have to be a band! You don't have to own a bar or work at a venue! You can be anyone that is interested in making sure the folks in Amarillo are informed on the local music scene and any other events as well!

Now, here's the point I want to make!
I'm actually happy that so many of you turn to Project Amarillo to get the scoop on the local music, events, concerts, and info. I thank you an really appreciate the support and the trust you give me in keep you informed on the local music scene. I still work hard in making sure that Project Amarillo has as much information and live music information that I can get a hold of. You guys are the real reason that I do this and do it for the love of the music scene and the hope that Amarillo will someday have a scene like those of Dallas, or Austin!

But, it's really sad that so many get so upset that I don't have everything and anything that is happening in Amarillo, and think that I am not a psychic and just know who is going to be where and when. And they get so bent out of shape because I missed a show or two. I would love to be the guy that knows everything about everything on the local music scene. I really would like to be that guy. But I am just one person with a 40 hour daytime job that tries his hardest to give you as much as I can.

I used to try to get to all the bands websites and myspace pages to get all the gigs and shows that I could find, and post them on the calendar. Let me tell you, that is a full time job by itself!!! And yes I do get to some of the band's sites and myspace pages when I can and get the upcoming shows on the calendar. I really try to get to the bars, clubs and venue sites more often and get the calendars on the site. I also visit the local bars and clubs now and then and get the upcoming shows on the calendar too.

But, I really don't have the money or the time to really get out there and really get all of the info! As matter of fact, I don't go out of my way anymore to get to the venues unless I am there as a patron and looking to have some fun either with friends or by myself. I gave that up guys! I tried so hard to do it. I really did! I spent all of my free time working my ass off to get any and all info on the upcoming shows and concerts and it got me nowhere. I didn't make any money from it, and really spent way too much doing it! And the reason is that I don't flaunt my own vanity and try to get in free and get free stuff just because I run Project Amarillo. I try to blend in and not act like an ass and do that. Maybe I should do that and get in free and get something, but I am just not that kind of person!

I want all of you to know that Project Amarillo is not just me, and only me! I pay for the space on a server. I pay for the domain names. I work my hardest to make sure that the site is secure not vulnerable to hackers and spammers. I try to keep the programming updated and work to get new features included without spending $100's to do it! I know that Project Amarillo is not facebook, myspace, or many other sites out there. This site is not meant to be that. Project Amarillo is for Amarillo and the bands, the venues and everyone else here in our great city!

I want everyone to know that you are able to register as a member! You can add events, add venues, edit events, edit venues, add articles, add stories, add links, and so much more. I don't sell your email, or any other information. Your information is not made public unless you want it to be that way! You will not get spammed. If you sign up for the events newsletters, you will only get the newsletter you signed up for and nothing else! I don't spam and will never give out your information.

You don't even have to register! If you use the contact page you can send me information to have added to the site as well. You can send me messages or replies on myspace as well.

Come on Amarillo, get off your asses and get involved! If you want me to list your shows on the calendar, then tell me about it! If you want something posted on the front page of Project Amarillo, you just have to ask!! I haven't said no yet! I can't guarantee how long you will stay on the front page, but I will honor all requests! Amarillo, Project Amarillo is here for you to use. It's free! It's not hard! It just takes a few seconds of your time to give me the info and have it posted for all to see!!!

I am looking for a few people that are willing to submit reviews, and stories about the local music scene or anything else that has to do with Amarillo. Your reviews, articles or stories will be posted on Project Amarillo. This is your opportunity to be heard and let others know about Amarillo and the local music. It doesn't have to be magazine quality, or even be much at all. If you have ideas, just let me know. If you want to request something new, just let me know If you have something to say and want others to see it, then here's your opportunity. I don't make any money and can't pay you for it. But if you have your own sites, myspace or facebook pages and want a link, then lets have it and I will make sure you get more hits and attention!

You may not be aware, but Project Amarillo get's between 500 to 3000 unique viewers every day and that is a lot of attention. It really amazes me when I look at the statistics and see so many checking out what I have created. That is a lot when you have to consider the Amarillo population is just under 200,000 and then how many are interested in the local music and the scene and how many event have internet!
And I'm not going to BS you and tell you I get millions of hits a day. If you think that John Boy and Duffus are that popular with their little useless site, then guess again. Here's a hint: A hit is ANY downloaded file from the server. That means when you hit one of Project Amarillo's pages, you might create 500 hits from that one click, because you access 20+ images, 5 css style sheets, and a few dozen other files that access countless other files to make that page a dynamic webpage! Don't believe the hype guys, I have been told that my competitors try to get advertisers this way. I look at their sites and wonder how in hell they are getting millions to look at them when the can't even be found on a search engine, period. I'm just adding this, because I have been told that I'm not as popular on the web and my competitors are blowing me away. I just laugh about it and let the naive go on believing that! Try going to Google and typing "Amarillo music," "Amarillo calendar," or "Amarillo music scene." Project Amarillo is in the top 5! I am #1 for "Amarillo bands," and I'm damn proud of it! I've worked hard to get there and it's hard not to be a little vain when I have postitions on the #1 search engine like that! I'm not going to give it up without a fight either. I've had others tell me that they will put me out of business and do a better job, and I only laugh at them any more. Now I am going to be vain and say: "Many have tried and failed! Many have tried and their sites have died!"

Back to the point. If you want to contribute to Project Amarillo and make it better, then let me know. I haven't said no yet and love when others want to get involved and make the local scene better. And if things ever take off and I do start making money from this thing, then those taht got me there will be sure to be rewarded and compensated! Hell, if you got me there, then I'm not going to ignore you, I want to keep you with me and making more!
I'm not in this for the money!
Don't get me wrong, I would love for Project Amarillo to make a living and support me and a staff, but I'm not here for just that! I have a desire to make the Amarillo music scene something to look up to.

I want everyone to know that I have doubted myself and Project Amarillo many times, and almost given up too many times. I have fought hard and fended off many enemies. I have spent countless hours, days and months just working on this thing to give it up. I am here Amarillo, and I am here to stay! And if you want to join in and help me build a new, better, bigger music scene, then welcome aboard and I'm happy to meet you and work with you!

Hey I read this and totally agree with you. I just found this site the other day
and I'm a guitarist in a Hardcore band called Burning Alaska. I wanted to know
if you could help us out on getting gigs because we are just starting out and we
need some guidance. The band really just needs a few places to play in the next
month. typically a crowd thats gonna like our style. I know this isn't really
your area of work probably but we are pretty lost in the music scene and figured
who better to help us out? right? well you should send us a comment on our
myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/burningalaska) if you can.. It would be
much appreciated...thanks so much....Billy of Burning Alaska

Your rant was too long... you made your point in the first part of the posting
and after a while I stopped reading it.

You're absolutely right, though...
since this is a free site and you are not making money off of it, we shouldn't
expect you to include anything more than what you are aware of. Actually, I
would think that musicians themselves would make a point to have their dates
listed.

Now about the people who like to complain - unfortunately, that seems
to be a common characteristic of Amarillo folks. I recently moved here and find
that no one seems happy with what they do get - FOR FREE mind you - it never
seems to be enough. It's like they believe that they deserve the BEST of the
free stuff...

It is very irritating and makes me want to become a hermit.

Jeff, I think you do an amazing job. Do you know how hard it is to find info on
music/events that happen in Amarillo ???
Yours is the only site I use as it
works, always has what I need to know and the fact you champion local talent is
to be commended.
Keep up the good work.

Hey man,

Tell the crybaby kids to go f*** off. It's not worth it to even
bother with them if they have that kind of attitude. This guy really has a
kickass website here. Don't go tearing it down because you think he should bow
down to you because you think you are a rock god. Just like Kaos said, "Your
a F*****g local band, YOUR NOT F******G ROCKSTARS, GET OVER YOURSELF." And
yes thanks Jeff for all of you hard work and time putting this thing together.

You rock man!
Kaos  - Good Job!!   |08-16-08
Hey Jeff,
Good job on standing up for yourself. I find it very insulting that
people are pissed at you for not telling you about their shows. Come on people
this is a community site. Jeff just nearly kills himself triing to keep up and a
few of you douchbags get pissed because he didn't hunt down your little gig at
the local club. Your a f*****g local band, get over yourselves. You have to do
your own promotion, Jeff just gives us a really nice, extra, local place to do
it. It's like this, don't shit on Jeff's rug. I just can't believe you little
kids get pissed at Jeff when you fail to let him know about your little gig.
Again, YOUR NOT f*****g ROCKSTARS, GET OVER YOURSELF.

Thanks Jeff for
everything you do for the locals, I know you love the local scene or else you
wouldn't do any of this.
