Ok after reading today's newspaper about the TIRZ thing and about Potter county want's to only pay their fair share, I have to ask this?
Why the hell is everyone so concerned about making downtown Amarillo into downtown big city America.

Why is so much of my hard earn money being used to rebuild a crumbling part of this town? Amarillo is doing fine, and downtown is just what it is. Why not tell big businesses to come in and rebuild it and rename the part they build after their product, like they do in big cities. ie-American Airlines Center and Smirnof Center in Dallas!

And do you guys really think that Amarillo citizens will support another ballpark. They barely support the one they have at the fairgrounds. Another waste of my money, and everyone else in Amarillo too!

Why don't we spend that money fixing the streets, or helping fix the problems with the fire dept being short handed.

I'm just so tired of hearing all this crap being done by our beloved city commissioners. They don't even want to ask our opinion, and want to just issue bonds and do whatever they want and pass along a new tax to us anyways.

I for one am tired of wasting my money on bad ideas that the elite of Amarillo want!

They will end up spending millions and after about 20 years it will just go back to the homeless slums and vacant buildings that it is now. Face the facts, Amarillo is a car town. People like to drive here. They don't live in an apartment without a car and use the train or subway to get around like in the big cities. Amarillo is a spread out suburban lifestyle. Folks like owning homes with a yard away from the tall buildings. I would rather see them tear down chunks of the downtown area for a new coliseum or museum. Things that do get used. The ball park is a good idea too, but unless they can get the fans in the stands it would be a waste in my opinion too. Wasting the space by keeping the few old buildings that are there, just for historical value is silly. You can't just keep everything unless you want to keep doing what we have now and everything keeps moving to the southwest part of town and downtown gets left behind. I think you must realize that if you evest your MONEY in type A bonds you will recieve about twice as much WITH no interst to pay on your savings. And as far as spending money on downtown. Yeah, they will spend millions and give it to all those businesses that will turn around and move out when the money and free taxes expires. Amarillo is not Dallas, and will never be like Dallas. Why do you people keep hope that Amarillo will all of a sudden blossom into a Dallas and all of a sudden have millions of residents and all the lifestyle of Dallas. Our city hall folks are only out to draw more business into Amarillo and think that if they build up this fancy suburban style life in downtown that the businesses will just flock to the city. Amarillo will not supprt a music scene and the local gang-wannabe little shits would just tear up and ruin anything nice that would be down there. Then it would just fall back into the ruin that it is now. I agree that the money should be spent on things like streets and such. But they always seem to cater to the southwest part of town where all those with the money are at. They don't seem to care about those of us taht can't afford the $250000 houses over there. They leave us with the potholes and trash like always. There are too many in Amarillo with bigger dreams than the pocket books of the city can handle. They all want money to be spent here and there. Maybe they should take a bit of that money and reinvest it into what is already here. Don't build a new ballpark. Give a few thousand to the one at the fairgrounds to fix up a few things and make it a place where people want to go and see a game. Take a few thousand and fix up the fire dept buildings that are falling apart and then save a bit and over time you could use to build a few new...
