AAYC
The Amarillo Activity Center was founded by LaRue and Matthew Hite in April of 2007. Shortly after that time the board of directors agreed and bought the former downtown YMCA building at 816 S Van Buren and began creating the AAYC. Although the AAYC is in it´s infancy it still houses the AAYC Teen Scene, Amarillo Blades Program, and the AAYC Childcare Facility. As the AAYC grows so will it´s programs and services to the youth of Amarillo.

In today’s fast paces environment the activities and happenings of youth are often overlooks and the youths of our town are left to find something on their own to do. This situation has resulted in many youth straying from safety and doing many unlawful acts. The AAYC wants to help put and end to this by providing affordable structured programs that our youth can participate in.

AAYC

The AAYC exists to provide safe, fun, affordable recreational activities for the youth and families in an alcohol/drug free wholesome environment.

OUR GOALS

  • Create programs that foster good citizenship and morals in the youth of Amarillo through the use of adult volunteers and donations
  • Provide opportunities for the youth and families of Amarillo to grow and become more successful.
  • Provide a place for youth to relax, off the street in a safe, healthy environment

PROGRAMS

AAYC Childcare

AAYC Amarillo Blades

T.E.A.M
Together Everyone Achieves More—indoor teambuilding coarse
This course is designed to help build self-esteem and the ability to work cooperatively in groups for youth groups and teams in the Amarillo Area.

Community Service
The AAYC allows youth and adult offenders of minor crimes to do community service at the AAYC when court ordered to do so. This allows the offenders to give back to the community through the AAYC.

AAYC Martial Arts

Future Programs
We are currently looking for volunteer coaches and program coordinators for the following programs: wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, martial arts, basketball, volleyball, dance, arts and crafts, and other programs as requested. We want the AAYC to expand into a center where all youth have a place to be and an activity just for them to help them stay off the street and out of the gutter that many youth today fall into.

The majority of our activities are hosted at the Amarillo Activity Youth Center (formerly the downtown YMCA building) at 816 S Van Buren in downtown Amarillo.
