Well I was making a comment in response to all the hate-mail and messages I am getting in response to my comment about Jentera's post but I gave up when my comment overfilled the space. So here you have it!

Wow, this stirred the pot and brought out the hate-mail. And I apparently pissed off a few with my attitude about this post.

I just got home from a night out checking out some good music, and the fight that I almost got into tonight from my comment here. I also see that Kaos chimed in with his pessimistic views on music and Amarillo as usual. Yeah I'm a little bit hacked off at the way some are taking this and what they are saying to me because of it. Just because someone gets on here and gives you their views of something and I agree with them, why do so many of you want to tear into me and act like it's the end of the world because I see something a bit differently than you do.

After getting into it with a drunk idiot at a bar tonight and reading the 15 emails/messages that are attacking me, I just want to vent back about it and I'm not apologizing. You can kiss my ass, and I don't care if you ever come back to Project Amarillo. We'll be better off without you here!! I already posted something on the rants board of the Forum a while back about some of this as well. But I want to put it right here on the front page in full view of everyone so they can get a better understanding of what I go through and that I'm tired of the shit!

You say that I'm a sellout and kissing Rock 108's butt so I can get something out of them. And the same about the Midnight Rodeo and the Aztec. Ok guys, I'm not getting anything out of this from them. Do you see them giving me money to advertise here. I have to pay to get into the shows too! So what the hell am I selling out to and getting from this? I really want to know? I pay money to give you Project Amarillo so that you have somewhere to see a calendar of events and concerts in Amarillo. I let the bands have a page(s) to promote themselves, and they can have it pretty much however they want it. I work my ass off going out to the bars, checking websites and myspace, calling people just to get all of the information you see on the calendar. About 95% of the calendar is put on this site by me and the rest are from the bands and venues that want to get their information on here before I know about it!

I only agreed with Jentera that if Rock 108 wasn't booking these shows, then we would probably not be getting anything at all. And the fact that the shows don't magically just happen, and someone has to actually put this stuff together. You say they play 80's music only. Ok, I guess I'm out of the loop on the new stuff. Because I don't remember the stuff I heard on Rock 108 today in the 80's. You say they don't play the local bands and want to alienate you. Ok folks this one really ticks me off because I know for a fact that when something like this was offered, the bands didn't care to bother with it. Don't believe me, then maybe you should check with Brock over at the Kar. He's one of my best friends and the original owner of Amarillo Nights, but now he works for the station. He had a show that showcased local bands on the air on 95.7. You know what? He quit doing it because of the lack of interest!! So don't go and tell me that the stations are out to ruin you and will not even bother with you. Because I have seen that side of this issue!
And man oh man if Eric Slater actually got to see some of the comments on the site and posts on the Forum calling him everything in the book. Why do you guys have such a fascination on trash talking him so much. I'd like to know just what he did to you to deserve what you are saying about him. Damn with the flack I'm getting over this and my post about the smoking ban, I'm wondering how long itwill take me to get to his level. If I keep it up, I doubt very long at all. I'm not kissing Rocks 108's butts, just trying to let you know that if they were not bringing in these concerts, then you would be travelling to Lubbock and OKC for all the rock shows!
Then you want to bitch about the venues. Wel we have a civic center and we used to have rock concerts there. When they can't sell enough tickets to pay for that big of a show, they quit putting in the place. I have been to so many concerts in the past at the civic center and the place was almost empty. So you get stuck with the Aztec and Midnight Rodeo. Would you prefer to see Disturbed at Skooters or Hoot's. I'd like to see them try to put them in a rock venue that isn't a big metal building in Amarillo. There just isn't much available for them to choose from. And yeah I hate the acoustics at the Aztec and the fact that I'm seeing a rock concert in a country bar too. My other best friends, Chris and Angie Post opened Avenue X and had some really good bands in there. The tickets were a steal compared to most of the other shows, but you guys wouldn't even sell out those shows and now we have another country bar there too! And I'm not bashing country, just saying those that go off bitching that we don't have a rock scene because of this and that, need to really look at the big picture! Amarillo just doesn't have a rock scene or a crowd. And the crowd I see whines about the outrageous ticket prices. You guys need to get out of town sometime. We are paying a lot less than most other cities to see some of the same bands. And Jentera already brought up the fact that those $200 ticket shows people keep wanting, are way beyond Amarillo's rock crowd's wallets. I had one email go off on me about the fact that Carrie Underwood was at the civic center and why can't I make them put Disturbed there too. I appreciate the fact that you think I have that much pull in where the bands are playing, but I really don't have much at all. And did you know that the tickets for Carrie Underwood were twice as much as the Disturbed tickets and they almost sold out the civic center.

Jentera brought up some good points. All I ever get here is how bad the rock scene is. Well it is and you just need to get used to it and live with what we have. Yeah it might be dirt Kaos, but what else is there. When you refer to the bands that we get as dirt and they hear about it, then that isn't going to give them much incentive to come here again! Yeah you think they don't read this stuff. Think again! I get emails every day from bands that appreciate what I'm doing for Amarillo. And I have a few from some of the popular bands that are on national tour that happened to find the site from my myspace page or just a search on the web. And I've had a few ask why I let you guys say what you do about them, and I have to explain that I'm not going to censor you and let both sides talk here!

Ok back to the fight. I had a dunken fool find out that I'm the guy from Project Amarillo tonight. He brought up the issue about crappy music scene and that I am one of the biggest reasons that it stays that way because I let Rock 108 and the bars keep it this way. That I am a Eric Slater wannabe and only pump the Rock 108 shows on this site. I just ignored him and walked off. Ok that just infuriated him worse. So I said forget it and left. Well he follows me to my car and begins to push me. And if it wasn't for his friends pulling him back and appologizing it would have been ugly. Man I didn't know I had such a reputation. Is it really my responsibilty when the scene here goes bad? As far as I'm concerned, I came into this while the scene was already this way and I've been doing my best to change it for the better.

If I'm such a drain on the scene, then why are so many people signing up for the newsletters and getting to some of the shows that they might not even know about otherwise. I guess since I'm not promoting your band all over my front page, then I'm bad for the scene. Get a life! If I don't just plaster your name all over my site, it's not going to break up your band. If it does, then hell it was about to happen anyways. If you want to get some promotions, then get your ass on here and send me the information, call me, anything. Don't come after me after your show and get all pissed off because I either didn't know you were even playing or I didn't just concentrate on your one band. I'm here for all bands and venues. Get off your lazy ass and do your own promoting. I'm willing to work with you if you ask me to. It's not my responsibility to go calling you every week begging for your schedule and then read your mind about what you want.

And I know that there is always someone that will disagree with anything I have to say, but the threats I keep getting and all the childish name calling over words is just so damn stupid. What really annoys me is that I get these from gmail or yahoo accounts that are usually not even real. What are you guys so afraid of? Are you scared of me? Hiding behind a nickname or a fake email address and trying to start shit with me. It's just pointless. I would rather have more of you do like the guy I got into it with tonight. At least I would know you are man enough to stand up for what you say. And it's so childish when you just go on and on about this stuff and don't prove anything or state any real facts, you just don't like what I have to say and get all pissed off and start ranting and raving at me. Grow up! And I'm not just talking to the kids here. Some of your are older than me! Just a bunch of selfish whining babies. You ever heard the saying, " Life isn't fair!" Well it isn't so just get used to it!
If you have such a problem with me and Project Amarillo, then why are you even here. Find a site out there that will give you this information and quit bugging me!!!

I'm taking a break from all the hard work guys! I will keep working on Project Amarillo and posting shows and articles. But, I'm tired of doing all of this and getting all the crap that I have to put up with anymore. If things slow down, oh well. I have run out of energy fighting to pump up the music scene in Amarillo. And I'm not just giving up on those that are supporting me either. I want to thank all of you that are giving me the praise and thanks. It really makes me feel good when I get those, and it's what's kept Project Amarillo alive as long as it has. I will keep up the bulletins on myspace and the newsletters on the daily and weekly events, but I'm not spending 3 to 6 hours every night looking for the shows anymore. I know I have said this before and then changed my mind when people sent me the encouraging emails, but this time I just don't have it in me anymore to keep killing myself over something that isn't paying me or that I'm getting anything out of. I have been working on Project Lubbock as much as I have time for and I will be shifting my time more towards that site. I have heard from a lot of bands there that want the site. I will be giving them what I have given you and we'll see how things go there. If it's doesn't go any better, then I'll hang it up and find something else to occupy my time with.

Yeah go on and keep sending it in and I'll just hit the delete key without even reading it anymore. I have emails from those that have something to actually talk to me about to spend time reading. If it starts out bad, I'm not even going to look at the rest of it anymore! Yeah you pissed me off, and feel lucky I didn't just say screw it and close down Project Amarillo and leave you without!!!!

*If I misspelled something or any bad grammer above, bite me. It's late, I'm tired, upset and don't really care!

Project Amarillo

Added 5.22.08:
Spydermonkie,
Thanks for your response. I would like to ask why it's boring? And since you mentioned it, what do you want to see here? I have asked and asked so many times and received no response, or one or two that really didn't want anything other than what is already here. I have tried to give everyone a place to see what's going on in Amarillo. Yes the articles are a bit boring, but anyone can register and post to Project Amarillo whenever they want. Maybe I'm not a flashy used car salesman, I'm not trying to be. I have worked hard to get all the calendar information and give it to you with out all the spammy ads that many others do. I also work hard to make sure the information is accruate and not outdated as well. I see so many calendars that show old dates and list the wrong shows all the time. I don't want to be like that.
I just want to know what you and everyone wants Project Amarillo to be and I will do my best to give it to you. This site get's hundreds to thousands of viewers each day and many complain, but no one tells me what they want changed. Now bear in mind, I don't have a blank check and can't just go and make a myspace out of this site. But I am willing to give you guys more, if you just tell me what you want!!!

Thanks to everyone else that responded to, I just wanted to reply to this one personally. ~Jeff

Amarillo has lost it's rock music scene. It's dead and it sucks. There used to
be some great places like the Paramount Club and Bangers and the rock scene was
badass. Then it died and everyone wants to keep bitching and they don't realize
when someone tries to revive the scene again. Ave X should have been the savior
of rock music in Amarillo, but the local rock fans ignored it and the rock scene
died again. I just moved to Lubbock. and there isn't much more here but at least
the local fans go to the bars when the rock bands are playing and they support
the scene. Amarillo is so into the wannabe thing and they don't realize they
have it just as good as any other city, they just ignore it and then bitch about
it. Well if you are not going to support it, then don't bitch when you can't
find it.
Amarillo doesn't deserve a rock music scene. If they want to jump
your ass because you support it, then they don't even deserve to have you
working so hard to provide for them. ProjectAmarillo is an awesome resource to
find out the scene in Amarillo, and I can't wait for the one you are doing for
Lubbock. You rock dude, and you have a fan!

:upset Oh! man this is crazy. I see things are still the same, people facelessly
starting shit, whinning and willing to do absolutely nothing to fix the rock
scene. I have pretty much all but dropped out of the music scene after almost 25
years. I loved it and I gave my entire life and soul to it but it came to an end
when I shut down Avenue X. Normally I don't get in to these things but Jeff
Golden is a very good friend of mine and you people need to know from somebody
who was there at the begining Jeff does all of this out of a pure love for live
music. He gets nothing for doing it and yet he carries on through all of the
bullshit slamming. I,ve watched him spend countless hours working on this site
when he first built it and he has always been there to help bands get the word
out. When I had HINGED he offered to build our site for a fraction of the usual
cost and he supported us and work on our media for nothing, just to be a friend
and help out the band. When my wife & I opened Avenue X he was constantly there
helping out with the work, media, bartending, website, security everything. Jeff
is a very selfless person and the Amarillo music scene is lucky to have him. And
beleive me if you want to post a negative comment about what I've just said be
my guest but you really shouldn't critisize a guy who is doing something like
this purely out of a love for the music, I don't care if you agr...

Hey man don't give up. You just need to appeal to the people that read your
magazine. If they arn't buying what you are selling, then you need to adapt and
give them what they are asking you for. Don't expect people to like it because
you do. Ask them what they want and give it to them. IMHO this site is very
boring and needs more excitement. Don't expect people just to read what you
write and like it everytime. That's just human nature.
Amarillo Sucks   |05-14-08
This town sucks. Nothing survives in this one horse s-hole place. Sorry things
didn't work out better. Goodluck on your future endeavors.
What the Hell?   |05-13-08
This website is a good idea. You are just in the wrong city to do something like
this. If the local peeps don't want it then you should just get rid of it and
work on a website for a real music scene like Dallas or Austin. Screw Amarillo
if they don't know what's good for them. You tried and that is all you can do.
Kaos   |05-12-08
Exactly, Optimism from me is after I eat chinese food I know I'm gonna need to
shit (lol). We did Brock's show. Hell I would have done it every week just to
keep it going. Brock did a shit ton for me and my band. I can never repay him
for what he did. So did Steve Lamb. I love those guys. Jeff you have continued
the good fight.

I don't expect top 40 bands to play for 5 bucks plus tips but
ya know 20 to 25 bucks is more fair, although I still wouldn't go. Hell I've
been to Ozzfest like 6 times and never paid more than 65 bucks for tickets and I
get to see like 19 bands. I also saw the Eagals in OKC in the early 90's and
paid 175 for tix. As for what more could be done. Rather you guys know it or not
I triied to bring some bands here and the clubs resisted. And quite frankly I
couldn't afford the insurance the civic center requires + no alcohol sales. I
don't have all the answers, hell I don't have any of the answers but I just
don't accecpt thats what you get so don't bitch. We've had a ton of good shows
here. But lately, I mean in the last probably 3 to 4 years, there hasn't been
the same quality in my opinion.

I could really give a shit less about rock
108, but what you say about programing is true. It is the listeners. So I go
back to my argument that I've been making for years. People in Amarillo live in
a closet. Or as Brock used to say The Sheeple of Amarillo. And Jeff I don't...
frenzy   |05-11-08
Kaos, I paid 35 bucks for Ozzy and Kiss in the mid 80's. 35 bucks for a top 40
band or even more 2 of them is a freaking steal. You expect them to come play
for a 5 dollar cover and a tip jar?
You're being unreasonable, but I've been
reading this site for several years and know better than to expect optimism from
you.
Do you have any ideas, anything you can do to help?

I remember the
radio sessions with brock, that's where I met you Jeff. Brock was doing what he
could with what little leeway a corporate giant like Cumulus would give
him.

It was very cool.

The ones that are spending their own time to make
stuff happen always have to give it up and pack it in because of support they
get negativity.

Any of you have any better ideas, do them on your own, and
maybe all together shit can happen instead of withering and dying.
New Rock   |05-11-08
There's a station in Amarillo that already plays the old stuff, called 100.9 THE
EAGLE. Maybe these people that make requests for classic rock and old stuff
should start listening to it and let Rock 108
play the new stuff.
AmrcnWrwlfNTX   |05-11-08
This was not just about you Kaos. Your comments were mild in comparison to what
was emailed to me through anonymous yahoo / gmail accounts threatening me and
such. What I have tryed to do with Project Amarillo is help the music scene and
I try to keep thngs on the positive side and not make everything I say just a
screw you all Amarillo sucks and so do you all kind of attitude. Your forum
comments are always talking bad about everything and that is not what I am here
to do. I'm so tired of getting blamed for those too. When you replied trying to
make it out like we were kissing butt to the radio and that we were telling
everyone to just give up and live with it.

That's not the case. I was trying
to bring up the point that we are lucky to get what we do get. And anytime I try
to say that Rock 108 is at least doing something, and I always get accused of
kissing their ass. Well if they were not bringing in the concerts, we might not
even have anything period!!!

And the local bands thing. you need to read
what I said. Brock tried to do a weekly local band show on the Kar and the bands
didn't care. Oh I guess since it wasn't Rock 108 then who gives a damn. At least
they tried. Don't expect to get on the popular rock station if you won't even
bother to get on the classic rock station!!! You know about the 80's thing.
Yeah, I hear older stuff, but then again I do hear a lot of music that...
Kaos   |05-10-08
Well since a good portion of your anger is directly aimed at me, I would like to
retort. First of all Jeff I nor any of the mombers of my band ever bashed you. I
support everything you and Brock have done, since nearly the begining. How many
are still around? Not many. I agree with you on Avenue X, and its a shame more
people didn't participate, but like I said, Grahams helped a great deal in
killing that place. As for calling the bands dirt, thats not exactly what I
said. I said we get fed dirt and we're supposed to be greatful for it. I'm not,
sorry not gonna happon. Ticket prices, you can fool yourself all you want but 35
bucks for 3 bands is high. Do a little search of how much shows cost elsewhere
you may be supprised. The metal building and the cowboy bar were examples of how
wrong things are. These bands could have easyly sold out one of the rooms at the
civic center, reality is no one goes to civic center shows becouse they don't
sell beer at rock shows. Why? "Becouse its mostly kids at those shows."

Rock 108, lets see. Go south a few miles and pick up one of Lubbucks rock
stations 94.5 and just listen to it. No one can denigh that it has a much better
program, and it supports local talent. Rock 108 has never supported local
talent. Eric Slater is the program director up there, he's the big bannana that
is why he gets blamed. Right wrong or indifferent. He is the face t...

Where is Avenue 10 located at?
Sirc Michaels from AVENUE 10   |05-09-08
Hey - AVENUE 10 is a new venue in Amarillo.

We're BYOB - not a bar - so the
emphasis is on the show, not on selling drinks.

Our first concert is SUMMER
BASH '08 with Revolution of Knowledge from Dallas, Arbitrate, and True Fiction.

If you guys really think the scene sucks, then come and support a venue
determined to present badass live entertainment. Admission is only $10, and like
I wrote above, it is BYOB.
